I have two computers, both running Windows XP SP2. They used to be able to see each other on the network and share files without problems. The last time I tried to do it, however, it wouldn't connect and I got a "network resource not available message". I can't think of anything that's changed. The only network-related thing I did recently was set up a certificate-based secure wireless connection using PEAP to my company's network. I have run XP's networking wizards. The only other relevant piece of information is that one of the computers dual-boots in Ubuntu Linux, and I can access that computer's Samba share from the other XP computer and share files that way. But connecting to XP, whether from XP or Linux does not work. Any suggestions?
Network resource not available: trouble connecting to windows network?
I would check on the MSN site to see if what you most recently did has any repercussions also I know that there are bugs reported with XP's service packs also check there.
Reply:Check that you have not altered the workgroup name of the machine you changed. If you have joined it to a domain you will have effectively locked out any non-domain machines. Also make sure your firewall settings have not changed.
Reply:Is that the whole error message? Try accessing one computer and then check the event viewer on the accessed computer. This could lead you in a good direction if it is not a firewall issue. The computer that was joined to the domain may have the firewall enabled as part of group policy, in this instance you may be able to create exceptions in Windows firewall, if this isn't turned off. Check your antivirus. It usually is the culprit when suddenly unable to connect issues pop up.
