My network key is acting weird?

I've just set up a new wireless network with wpa-psk security. So when I attempt to connect to my network I type in the new network key, and im connected.

But once in a while the internet stops working.... even though I am still connected to my network! it says my connection strength is excellent.

So i disabled my network and double clicked on the network to connect again, but I realize that the network key is automatically typed for me and all i have to do is click connect. But the weird thing is the network key automatically typed is the wrong key.. its not the network key i set up. I know this because my network key is longer than the one displayed.

What the hell is causing this and how can i fix it? Is this whats not allowing the internet to work?

Your computer is operating properly.

Your network key is right. The different length of the stars "*" from your actual key length is to protect your key security. This is done intentionally so that someone who happens on your unattended computer cannot get any hints to your key. Length would be a very big hint in cracking the key.

You do not need to re-type. Try it.
Reply:your local network connection has nothing to do with the internet. If you want to use the wireless router as your internet connection here is how you do it if you have dsl. If you hard reset your dsl modem it will be in bridge mode. In your wireless router setup on the main page which is the first page you see and set the connection type to PPPoE enter your username and password most tell you that you are connected or not. Onto the wireless key part. You can change the key in the wireless utility you can also set it manual or automatic.
Reply:your wireless adapter utility software supplied by vendors
