Okay, I bought a new Compaq/HP laptop with Vista Home Premium on Sunday and everything works fine except I can't connect to my wireless network. It's my cousins wireless network Iand it's an unsecure wireless network and even though my computer finds the network and picks it up it says connect to network. I click connect to network and it starts to connect and then stops and says Windows failed to connect and then says diagnose the problem and then says something like this:
"Windows can't connect to network ********** because it hasn't received a response from the wireless router or access point"
However if I plug the eternet cable into my laptop the internet works fine but I can't connect to it wireless. My cousin however can connect to the wireless network with no problem.
I can connect to a lot of other wireless networks however such as the school library and other unsecure networks though
Can someone please help me get my computer to connect wirelessly to the network.
Wireless network internet connection problem!!! I need HELP!!!?
If you are able to connect to other wireless routers without a problem then there is most likely a setting on your cousins router (such as not broadcasting the ssid or something)...have your cousin double check the settings on the router..
if the router is not using any protection then he can hit the reset button to reset it to manufacturer defaults and this should correct a wrong setting.
I highly reccommend setting the wireless security on and configuring yourprofile with the key.. it will connect without a problem and will still connect to the other sites.
good luck.
Reply:Hi,
I can have a look at your laptop remotely if you prefer. You will need to connect the Ethernet cable for the time I fix it up. Then you will be able to enjoy wireless.

Reply:Ur MAC ID is not configured allowable.
Reply:reboot your computer then try again
also check the type of Wireless it is (check your router, and check your laptop)
is it 802.11 g or
802.11 n
if it's the N network those are not required to be compatible between different brands
Reply:10 to one if you change the channel on the router from channel 6 to channel 1 or 11 the problems will be solved
Could be a security issue with vista ??
Try installing this program and see if it can connect you
Free version ( after 7 days ) is fine

The fellow above caught it
Your cousin router may well have the security setting ( encryption on)
Someone previous put the wep key permanently into this nube's computer and he is not even aware there is encryption
When you try to log on does it ask for the security ( most likely wep) key
You have to enter it twice usually
If you cannot find out
Download network stumbler
If you a lock in the green round icon ( under the word mac)
that indicates that the encryption is on

too bad the marketplace forced you into vista
Reply:It sounds very much like it's an issue with your cousin's wireless router. You said you can connect to other wireless networks but not this one. For some reason it is not talking to your computer and thus not establishing a connection. Make sure that it really is an unsecure connection.
Reply:It may be that your cousin's wireless router isn't set up to issue additional ip addresses.
When the router is setup for wireless, it can be setup to issue a range of addresses behind it. Have your cousin check the DHCP settings. My guess is if s/he sets a broader range of ip addresses to be issued, you'll be set.
Good luck!
Reply:You say the wired input works with you laptop but the wireless does not and that your wireless ethernet card works elsewhere?
The differences.
1.) Wireless used WEP or not check it.
2.) Wireless routers usually have an option to only respond to a known IP list. I use this option myself because it only takes a few minutes with a fast computer to obtain the WEP code.
Check that if this option is used that your laptop is a recognized user.
