Network Frustration?

First off thanks for looking at my question:

Now here whats happening:

two computers 1 desktop, 1 laptop---

I've run the set up Home network on both and made sure the computer names are different and the workgroup name is the same. When I share the folder (by right clicking and ticking the boxes) it appears on my desktop network but not on my laptop.

On the desktop if I click view worgroup computers I can see my desktop and laptop folders, if I click laptop and try to open a file I get: (file) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact admin of this server to find out if you have permissions. Access is denied.

On the Laptop: if I click view workgroup computers, I get (workgroup) is not accessible (same message as above). The network path was not found.

Both pc's connect wirelessly to a BThomehub so I'm wondering if this is the problem as I set this up before using wired access for the desktop and wireless laptop.

Help thankyou!

Network Frustration?
First off, check to make sure your firewalls on both machines are allowing "File and Print Sharing". Are you assigning static IP addresses, or are they assigned through DHCP? It helps too to make sure that you have the same username and password on both machines.

TEENick Network?

Since the current Nickelodoen has so many more animated programs than live-action programs I had an idea. Nickeldeon should revamp the regular Nickelodeon channel into a TEENick Network. While TEENick doesn't have that many shows currently, the network could also air shows that have been aired on TEENick in the past as well. Some examples: Clarissa Explains It All, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Kenan %26amp; Kel, Taina, Cousin Skeeter, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, All That, The Adventures of Pete %26amp; Pete, The Brothers Garcia, and more. The network would also include current shows: Ned's Declassified, Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, Just Jordan, and Unfabulous. All of the Nicktoons would be moved to Nicktoons Network. There would then be two completely separate networks. One would focus on Nicktoons while the other would focus on live-actions shows. It's a little out there, but what do you think?

TEENick Network?
I love the idea!!! I love the cartoons and i love the live action shows too and that would be perfect to have them seperate. Having the old shows on too would make it even better because those shows were so good that they still deserve to be on once and a while, even if there are no new episodes. I also miss the Amanda Show and All That. U should try and find some way to pitch that idea to nickeloden! I'm behind u 100% dude!! %26lt;3Hunter
Reply:i think that's a great idea i would do that cuz that's one thing we truly need
Reply:I totally agree if they get like a couple more TEENshows then there could deffinately be a TEENnick channel of its own. that way I wouldn't have to watch spongebob waiting for Unfabulous or Zoey 101 to come on T.V. that would be so fab. they just some funding and more shows
Reply:hahaha u STILL watch nick!! im 11 and i stopped watching that i watch MTV. i hate cartoons! i hate nickeldeon!! go watch barney if u still watch nickeldeon
Reply:I think this is an awesome idea! when i was younger i LOVED all that, and are you afraid of the dark? and i would tottally watch them again and i know my friends would to! the shows they have on TEENick now SUCK though, it is a good idea to separate the 2
Reply:its a little out there like you said but. i agree. except like you said, they need more shows! youd make millions if you took that to the real world and it worked. dont forget to give a million dollars to me =), lol. im just kidding!
Reply:This is a little out there, but I kinda agree. I remember those shows you are talking about and would love it if they came back. =]

Network Drive, help?

A week ago I mapped a network drive on my desktop computer, (Dell Dimension 5150) and the drive letter was 'N:'. I went into My Computer and there is was under Network Drives, that was all completely fine. So next I got my laptop and set-up both computers so they connected on a 'Peer-to-Peer' network, so that I could share an internet connection, that was all fine as well. But my problem is, when I went into My Computer and the drive 'N:' was no where to be seen, why is this? Do I have to set anything up to be able to see it?

I have run through the Network Set-up on both computers and both computers were switched on when I tried to do this.

Thanks, Jamie.

Network Drive, help?
Try switching the drive letter, if something else has the same letter neither will show up.

Wireless network won't recognize home network?

I have two laptops and two desktops. All 4 systems are able to share the internet at any time, but only the two desktops are able to share files via the "Shared files" folders. All firewalls are disabled, antivirus is disabled, and anything else I can think of. I have ran the network Setup wizard countless times, all to no avail. All of the systems are on the "WinHmNetwork" workgroup, but when I browse all systems in Network Neighborhood, nothing shows up on the laptops and only the two desktops show up on the desktops. How do I share files with a laptop?? All drivers are updated / current, all are on an unsecured wireless G network, and bios / motherboard is fine. Why won't the wireless networked items see anything else, even though they can surf the internet? Oh, and I have a wireless router with no firewalls. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Wireless network won't recognize home network?
You didnt enable file and print sharing on the two that you cant see! You can enable this in add network components! You with then see a sharing tab when you right click folders.
Reply:can you please mention whether they are connected through a lan or wireless network.

if wireless then you need to buy wireless supporting cards for your desktops to show your laptops which are presently on wireless network. try surfing one laptop on other.if it works that means that you have not installed a wireless device on the desktops.

better to connect through lan cables as it is cheaper compared to the wireless devices
Reply:maybe because your laptops connect via wireless router? and you need to enable it in router settings?

Network Problem?

Hi, I am trying to make a network between 2 computers and somehow or another I can't make the connection. Now I tried all these possibilieties:

1) Same network name

2) Auto IP

3) Windows firewall off

4) Zonealarm firewall off

5) Network cable ok and network card ok

Can someone please tell me if I need to check something else? Thank you

Network Problem?
how are you connecting the PCs? if your using a switch or hub then use straight through cables, if your connecting them directly to eachother, you need a crossover cable,
Reply:You may have tried to see if they are in the same Workgroup.

Ensure that file sharing is enabled in your neywork tools.
Reply:run the windows network wizard on BOTH computers. it's on the control panel.

use the "other" option on the first choice selection window, and "direct connection to another computer" on the second
Reply:Are you using a router or straight cable connect? If cable connect, then you need what's called a null ethernet cable, also known as a crossover cable.

You can find a bunch of howto's at:

Network problem?

i have two computers on this network a laptop running wireless and a desktop running wired. the desktop was working fine then all of a sudden it just quit accessing the network, ive tried repairing and it says cant renew network address and when i restart it just says aquiring network address and then itll say limited or no activity, ive reseted the router, cable modem and everything nothing seems to work.

Network problem?
Try using a different cable from the router to the PC, try plugging the cable into a different port on the router, and finally try replacing the network card. If the network card is an onboard port, add a different network card.

Network card speed?

i use 3com 3c900b-TPO but it seems to be slowing down the internet. I had realtek network card and it broke so my friend gave me his old network card which is 3com 3c900b-TPO but it is soo slow compared to previous network card. Also the speed says 10mbps but my old one used to be 100mbps. My downloading speed also decreased too. I'm thinking of getting a new faster network card. Any suggestions?

Network card speed?
The card your friend gave you is a 10mb card. Go to the store and buy a new card. ANY card would be an improvement. I generally am a fan of Intel and Broadcom. Linksys has been good for me as well.
Reply:Try Linksys. I have had very good luck with ALL their products.

Network Key help me please?

Im trying to set up my zune to wireless sync and zune software searches for the network and when it finds one i click it to connect it says that this network is protected and that i need the correct network key to access it, where do i find this network key?

Network Key help me please?
The key is set up when you set up the wireless functionality of your router. If you don't know the key, or never set one, you're trying to connect to someone else's router.
Reply:Ok. You have to ask the Administrator who set this router up and ask them what it is. If you dont know who or they dont know. You have to get on your computer and select start%26gt;run%26gt;punch in CMD and press enter. from there a black screen should appear tyep in ipconfig and find were it says delault gateway take that number and put it in your web browser: look like this http://192.168.1.1 sothing like that. Press enter. And you will prompt your routers login page you have to have this information or you will have to reset the router (DOnt reset it if you dont know how to re configiure the settings!) the default password for a reset router is username: admin password:password

Try logging in with that first.

Wen you get in your router fin your Wireless network settings, and there you should find your network key, or even reset it

Wired network adapter, HELP!?

Am i suppose to buy a wired network adapter for my new laptop, to get my linksys wireless router to work? or is my laptop already made with a wired network adapter?

nope any laptop made after 2006, has a built in network card. if you dont have one, then you pretty much have a shitty laptop.lol

but im sure you do a network card built already, from reading your specs, you do.., so just make sure your router is hooked up correctly and your wireless is set..

Reply:Those are ports. Adaptor is a hardware piece. A network adapter can be purchased separately from most manufacturers that supply routers and other forms of networking equipment. When purchasing a network adapter, some prefer to choose the brand of adapter that matches their router. To accommodate this, manufacturers sometimes sell one or two network adapters together with a router in a bundle called a home network kit. Technically, however, network adapters all offer very similar functionality according to the Ethernet or Wi-Fi standard they support.
Reply:Your laptop has both a wired and a wireless connection. For wired, simply plug in a ethernet cable from the router to the laptop. For wireless, you need a wireless router, and it should be picked up automatically unless it has been secured, then you will need a password.
Reply:No. You should just be able to plug your laptop to your router either using you built-in ethernet, or wirelessly, if your router is wireless.

Home wireless network problem!!?

OK....so I am frustrated. I have two laptops at home. I have a modem and a wireless router. One of my laptops (Mac) doesn't have a problem connecting to wireless network that I set up with a network key. BUT!!!! the other laptop is a PC and it drives me crazy. It is picking up other signals but not mine, even though I entered the network key and I try to get it connected to the wireless network I set up.

Why is this happening??? How can I fix it and have it permanently connected to that specific network!! Not an expert as you can see. But Im pretty sure it has to do with some network setup thing or IP address or something....something is just not doing it for me. Please HELP!!!

Network problem?

i work in a small share trading company and has only 4 computers in my company computers are connected via LAN one of them is directly connected to sify broadband and other two are connected via V-SAT network and now i want connect all 4 pc to the same network at a time (either V-SAT or BROADBAND), if any problem comes in V-SAT network then i want to switch over the other network by changing their ip's to connect all 4 pc via sify's broad band how can i do this plz help me give answer step wise procedure all 4 pc has installed windows 2000 prof. OS?

Network problem?
add a second NIC to each terminal that you want to switch over to broadband.

go ahead and plug in an ethernet cable from the pc's to the broadband router or switch.

Go into network properties for each new NIC on the pc's you added them into and set the card to receive an IP either through DHCP or static...however you have it set up..I don't know..

then just disable the nic's on each pc...then when you want to switch from V SAT to broadband just disable the VSAT NIC and enable the broad band NIC in network properties options and you should be able fine.
Reply:You can put a router in and connect all the pc's to it. If you need to switch over, reprogram the routers address.

Wireless Network on laptop not working on G band?

I have a hp Compaq nc6000 notebook it was shipped OEM with the "HP W500 802.11a/b/g WLAN - network adapter " but after the Hard Drive failed and a new one installed fresh XP pro the darn thing only communicates wirelessly on 802.11b.

Furthermore if I go onto the laptop adapter properties advanced tab/ Wireless mode and set value to the following settings:

1. 5 GHz only and laptop does not find any wireless networks.

2. If value is set 5ghz + 2.4 (default) laptop will find 3 networks in range.

3. If I set wireless router to G only the laptop looses all networks.

4. Therefore I have declared I am not using the 802.11g with this Compaq nc6000.

When I go to Device Manager / network adapters- it list "HP WLAN 802.11a/b W500" notice no G.

Why is this and how do I verify and install the adapter / drivers correctly so that i can use the 802.11g?

Any troubleshooting assistance is greatly appreciated.

everything else is working up to spec.

Problems setting up wireless home network with Vista and Linksys?

We have recently purchased a new laptop with Vista to replace an old pc. As several family members have laptops (also vista) we decided to set up a wireless network using a Linksys wireless G router. I connected the ethernet wires as instructed and had to set up the router manually as a PPPoE. This appeared fine the internet worked through the hardline but when I went to log on wirelessly there was no network detected. I then used the CD set up disk to change the settings and the network appeared but it is not possible to connect to the internet. the network is a stand alone network for file sharing. The laptop hard wired into the router has internet but it says that this is on another network. After mapping the networks the modem is not connecting the wireless network to the internet.

I have tried resetting things several times and am stuck.

Help would be appreciated

I need a professional answer for networking.I have 2 seperate network.How can I share a printer b/w them?Thnx?

To clarify more: I have 2 networks in my shop. Let's name it Network A %26amp; Network B. In network A,there's a printer to share for all computers and in Network B..there is no printer at all. So how can I link the printer in Network A from Network B? Do I need any networking hardware, or software?

Thanks in advance

I need a professional answer for networking.I have 2 seperate network.How can I share a printer b/w them?Thnx?
Here's the real answer from someone who does this thing for a living. The answer is that there is no way to answer your question without more information.

1. Is there any connection between these two networks now?

2. How is each network configured regarding IP addressing?

3. How is the current printer shared? Does it connect to Network A with a network card? Is it connected to a print server or does each machine print to it directly?
Reply:Well, I'm assuming the reason you have 2 seperate networks is to segregate traffic and increase security.

To share that printer, you're going to have to delve into access-lists (if you're using cisco).

Other than that, just get another printer with a jetdirect card (or some other configuration therto) and have 2 seperate printers as well.
Reply:The two networks must be linked OR the printer must have a WiFi interface that's network independent (has a unique IP address). I would add a switch to link the two networks if that's possible. I might also encourage use of a system to act as a Domain Controller.
Reply:u can get a switch and use VLANs to connect the networks virtually.
Reply:If I assume that these are not physically linked then you require a router or Wireless connection to physically connect the two networks together.

However, if there are physically linked with a router then you will have to configure the router or routers so that these two networks are visible to each other. This will require you to setup a VPN possibly between the two networks, depending on your requirements.

Network of resistors?

As shown in the figure ,a network of resistors of resistances R1and R2 extends to infinity toward the right.

http://session.masteringphysics.com/prob...

Q1.

Find the total resistance R1 of the infinite network. (Hint: Since the network is infinite, the resistance of the network to the right of points C and D is also equal to R_T .)

Epress your answer in terms of the variables R1 and R2

R_T= please help.

Network of resistors?
Take off the 3 resistors on the left and you still have the infinite series. Call its resistance X (easier to type than R_T). The fact that when you add back those resistors you still have resistance X gives you this equation:

2R1 + 1 / (1/R2 + 1/X) = X

Manipulating this,

2R1*(1/R2 + 1/X) + 1 = X*(1/R2 + 1/X)

2R1/R2 + 2R1/X +1 = X/R2 +1

2XR1/R2 + 2R1 -X^2/R2 = 0

Rearranging in conventional quadratic order,

-1/R2*X^2 +(2R1/R2)X +2R1 = 0

(A = -1/R2; B=2R1/R2; C=2R1)

whose roots are

[-2R1/R2 ± sqrt((2R1/R2)^2 + 8R1/R2)]/(-2/R2)

One root, [-2R1/R2 + sqrt((2R1/R2)^2 + 8R1/R2)]/(-2/R2) is negative (numerator +, denominator -).

The other root, [-2R1/R2 - sqrt((2R1/R2)^2 + 8R1/R2)]/(-2/R2), can be simplified to

[2R1/R2 + sqrt((2R1/R2)^2 + 8R1/R2)]/(2/R2) and to

[R1/R2 + sqrt((R1/R2)^2 + 2R1/R2)]/(1/R2) and to

R1 + sqrt(R1^2 + 2R1R2) (answer)

Checking:

Picking at random R1=3 and R2=7,

X = 10.14143

2R1 + 1 / (1/R2 + 1/X) = 6 + 1/(1/7 + 1/10.14143) = 10.14143 = X

Check is OK.

Printer Networking, adding a printer to a network?

Alright, there are three computers in my house and I want to connect each of them to a single printer. I have a wireless network connection already established and the internet works on all three computers. However, a printer attached to one of the computers is not recognized by the standard "Add Printer" functions on the other two.

I was wondering if the lack of recognition comes in part to the fact that the computer with the printer is not the host computer to the network.

And I was also wondering if there were any other means that I could connect a printer to a network, keeping in mind that I have already looked through printer spooling and the printer settings on the computer with the printer attached to it (set to shared).

I believe the problem lies with connecting the printer to the network, but on the computer with the printer attached it says that the printer is being shared, but the other two do not recognize that.

Thank you for your help.

Printer Networking, adding a printer to a network?
If you really want you could get a printer server. this allows you to connect your printer to the network without one computer always have to be on. Its a little pricey though. look around, there are cheaper ones
Reply:do the other two computers have drivers for the printer?
Reply:well first on all three computers go to start then my network. you should see all computers on your network. if there aren't any computer then you have to add the computer to the network. having a pc connected to the internet doesn't mean its on the network. to add a network click on the msn icon and it should automatically search for your network. if it doesn't then google "how to add a pc to a network"

Home Network Question?

I have two computers, one is Windows XP Home Edtition (Service Pack 2) and Windows 95. These two computers are far away from each other, one upstair and one downstair. And here's a few questions:

How can I be able to set a network between these two computers without buying anything? How do I setup the network like where to plug in the wires for network? What do i need to set up the network? If there is no other way, please let me know what I have to buy to make a network between these two computers.

Home Network Question?
Windows 95 does not have networking capabilities. I hear that there have are add on's to allow this, but this is one of the most elusive rumors in networking history. If at all possible, upgrade the 95 to 98 SE, and try it that way. Good luck
Reply:Regardless of what you do you are going to have to buy something.

Problem is that Windows 95 may have trouble reading the Windows XP file system if it is NTFS.

You can put an Ethernet adapter in the Win95 machine but you would have to attach it to a wireless router. You would then place a wireless Ethernet card in the Win XP machine.

Basically this is more work then the headaches it would bring.

Windows 95 has some networking capabilites, but only after you install an network adapter. The capabilites are very limited, it is basically a drone.

Wireless Network Router Problems?

Gurus I need your help.

I'm trying to set up a wireless network in my house.

I have a D-Link 802.11g router and a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem.

I've actually had this network up and running before, then the main computer crashed and brought the network down with it.

I've restored all the settings and I had it working for a little while today. The only problem was that I would have 5 bars up until I connected, then it would drop to 1 bar.

I read somewhere that I needed to reset my IPconfig so I did that and now I can't get any connection again.

As it stands right now, my laptop running Windows XP (SP2) detects the network, I can connect to it, but I can't connect to the internet. And the connection (that doesn't seem to exist, anyway) still drops down to one bar when I try to connect.

My wife's MAC's airport card doesn't recognize the network at all.

We currently piggyback off our neighbors. Please help.

Email with more specific questions if needed.

Wireless Network Router Problems?
There are a few pieces involved, so the problem could be in any of them.

1. Start by taking the D-Link router out of the equation entirely. Plug your compter directly into the Surfboard modem and confirm that you are indeed connected to the Internet. Reset your cable modem after you plug a different machine directly into it just in case it ignores the new MAC (ethernet media access control, not Apple Mac) address that it is seeing from the PC.

2. Verify that your Surfboard will accept a connection from any MAC address, not just a specific one.

3. When you plug the D-Link back into the Surfboard, restart the Surfboard and plug a PC directly into the D-Link to ensure that machines connected to the D-Link can connect all the way past the Surfboard and onto the Internet.

4. Verify that the D-Link is properly set up to supply wired and wireless computers with a proper IP address via DHCP

5. When you confirm that a wired connection works between a PC and the D-Link, then you can go back to troubleshooting the wireless connection. Begin by testing the wireless connectivity in the same room.

6. The IPCONFIG command you are looking for is IPCONFIG /RELEASE, followed by IPCONFIG /RENEW

7. The PING command will let you know how far your wireless connections are making it before there are problems.

Post back with the results of these checks, and I can edit my answer with more tips if necessary.
Reply:I dont know how easy this will be but it sounds like your Wireless router is blocking connections. What you need to do is use a hard wire (cable) and connect to the router. You should be able to use the web interface for the router to check the wireless settings including the secutiry.

Please keep in mind that by default MOST wireless routers and access points sold to the public do not have any security turned on. This means that any data sent from your laptop or desktop is open to being snooped by anyone looking for wireless signals.

Do not try and use the wireless connection to modify your router. This is not the best way.

Conflicting Network SSID?

Hi, I am having trouble connecting to a wireless network at my friend's place. There are several other wireless networks in the area, and one with the same SSID as that of my friend's. So, when I try to connect to my friend's network, it kicks me off after a few seconds, and connects me to the other network with the same SSID instead. Or, sometimes, windows claims to be connected to my friend's network, but it's actually connected to the other one. I know this because my friend's router is 802.11b standard, whereas the other one is 802.11g. Can anyone help please?

Conflicting Network SSID?
It might help to tell your friend's dad that, if you are connecting to the other person's network, they could easily be connecting to your friend's network. Your friend's father should be more concerned about the security risk of someone else accessing their network. They really need to change their SSID (and implement wireless encryption, by the way)
Reply:go into the routers config and change the ssid ... its pretty simple ...
Reply:Why doesn't your friend just change his SSID to something else?
Reply:You should change the SSID so that it is unique. Then go into your wireless setup and configure your friend's connection is a preferred connection and set your wireless to connect to preferred networks only.

Duplicate default SSIDs are a sign of clueless newbies. Change it to a unique SSID. There's no other way to handle it. And there is NO good reason not to!

Vista Networking Issues, can't see other computers on network?

I have a network that is setup like this: modem--%26gt;Router--%26gt;Switch. Switch is full, so i connected my computer to the router ports. The router config. website shows all the computers from the network on the DHCP client list, but none of them show up on my network. One computer running vista is recognized on the network map, but cannot be accessed. workgroup has already been set, any ideas?

Vista Networking Issues, can't see other computers on network?
Most likely either Windows Firewall is blocking the traffic or you have another firewall installed that is blocking the traffic.

Try making sure that all software firewalls are disabled. then try pinging the ip address of other computers and the router from the different computer to test connectivity. Then try sharing a folder. If you are able to get this to work, then you know it is the software firewalls. Afterwords, you can turn them back on and then set them up to accept the ip addresses of the other computers on your network.
Reply:Here is a link to a site that explains how Vista and XP can't always see each other and how to download a Microsoft patch. I did that and it worked.

I'm going to get my A+ certification. When I'm done with that, I can start with my CCNA class, or if I want to I can get the Network+ certification on my own.

My knowledge of networks as of now is limited. Should I try and get the Network+ Certification, or just dive right in to CCNA, hoping that the CCNA will cover everything the Network+ cert will? I just want to make sure that I'm prepared for the CCNA when the time comes to take it.

Time is somewhat of a factor, but I will have 2 months between the end of my A+ class and the CCNA class.

Network+ or CCNA?
I would jump right into the CCNA. The first two sections cover all your basic networking along with routers. Section 3 is switching and section 4 is WAN technologies. I've seen some Cisco academies break 3 and 4 into seperate semesters now.

If you really wanted to get the network+ cert, I would wait until you finish ccna 1 %26amp; 2 and study for the test. The information will be very similiar.
Reply:CCNA would make you a "heavy hitter" where networking certifications are concerned. It goes into enough depth that it incorporates everything that's in Network+, and then some, and then some more, and then LOTS more.

If you're starting with limited knowledge of networking, you should go for the Network+ after your A+. If you dive straight into CCNA classes, you may find yourself out of your depth in a hurry.

So, my recommendations ... (subject to whatever limitations you may have in terms of time or funds)

1) Get your A+ as you're already planning on

2) Get your Network+

3) Get some real-world networking experience (a year or so)

4) Go for the CCNA if you're so inclined

You'll have an easier time with the CCNA if you have some experience under your belt **before** you get into the classwork.
Reply:doing the same course as you m8. my teacher told me that CCNA will cover everthing to do with networks, in depth, never heard of the network+ so wouldnt know about that

:)
Reply:I have my network + cert and its doing me just fine. I studied the CCNA material in school but i went for the network + first.

Why is Network Connections window missing 'Wireless Network Connections' area?

Windows XP, SP2 -- attempting to use a USB Network Adapter. Device Driver is current and compatible (verified on manufacturer's site), and appears in Device Manager under 'Network Adapters.' Properties of the device show 'This device is working properly,' but Network Connections window only shows my ethernet card (no 56K modem either). All services (.msc) that would effect this issue are enabled automatically and started (Wireless Zero Config., COM+ Event System, etc.), and DLL files are correctly registered (regsvr32 netshell.dll, netfgx.dll, etc.). The system has been restarted, drivers removed in safe mode and re-installed automatically upon reboot, etc. Software that came with the USB device is not picking it up either, and I have verified the device and software/driver are working on another machine (driver even works on Vista). Only problem is that THERE IS NO WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTIONS area under 'Network Connections.' Please help. Please.

Why is Network Connections window missing 'Wireless Network Connections' area?
I have seen this many times.

The only way to fix this problem has been to re-install Windows. Only once have I seen a repair-installation work.

Wireless Network Connected but Internet / Forefox not working.?

Please, help. My laptop connects to the Wireless network but neither Firefox nor IE are not working. The signal is strong. I clicked the wireless connection icon on the panel - the wireless network status pops up. It shows that the network is connected and it show a little computer with words "Send" on the left and "Receive" on the right of it. There is a little "LOCK" sign on the "receive" side and I think that's the problem. WHat do I do?

I do not think I made any changes to the wireless network set-up.

But a day or two before this started I got a message in the "Wireless Networks" status window, wich said Windows was unable to configure the connection. Everything worked on those days.

My PC-Cillin subscription expired a couple of weeks ago and I never yet got to renewing it could that have anything to do with the problem?

Please, help.

Thank you.

Wireless Network Connected but Internet / Forefox not working.?
the lock means it is "firewalled" and probably you are not allowed to connect to the internet. just on the local network. you can ask permission to the administrator to allow you internet access.
Reply:the lock sign means the wireless router ur connected to is private

u need a password to get to connect to it.

wat kind of laptop is it?

Network problems on my wireless mac?
Check out this OSX help page at Apple for details on setting whether or not a network is a default join:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?...

The short answer is:

"To give a network the highest priority, drag the name of the network to the top of the list. This is the network AirPort will attempt to join first."

Good luck!

Wireless network -- connected to network but no internet?

I have a secure network that has worked fine for a few years. I have an old computer in the basement that I don't use much -- last time was about 3 months ago. Today when I went on the computer, I was connected to my network as always, but for some reason I can't get on the internet (file sharing %26amp; printing works fine). I never had this problem before on this computer %26amp; all other computers on the network work fine. I've disabled all firewalls but I can't get any browser to work. The only thing that has changed in the last 3 months is that I added a PS3 to the network. Any suggestions?

Wireless network -- connected to network but no internet?
The problem sounds like to be DNS, firewall or default gateway. Check the following:

Check the current IP settings on your computer:

Start-%26gt;run-%26gt;cmd, enter "ipconfig /all" command and check that actually you have configured the correct IP address, Netmask, default gateway and DNS servers.

Now lets check connectivity, ping another computer from your PC on the same network. If it works it means that your IP addressing is fine.

Then ping your default gateway. If it works the Default gateway is available.

Then ping internet but do not use a name, use an ip address to check if the DNS is fine. For example instead of ping yahoo.com ping its ip address 216.109.112.135. If you dont get a response check if there is any firewall feature enabled on your default gateway or a NAT issue. If you get a response it means that you can get out to internet

if you have a response try then to ping using yahoo.com if it does not work it means that your DNS servers are not properly configured.

If there is a DHCP server in your network try to get an ip address form it, the server will provide all the necessary ip addresses to get you out to internet.
Reply:try to ping websites to see if you're connected to the internet and so you could determine if it's a firewall issue (start-%26gt;run-%26gt;cmd-%26gt;ping yahoo, com) if you get replies, then you are connected to the internet and might want to boot in safe mode. if you get 'request timed out' you might want to check your other computers (if there are any) to see if they're online.

also, try to surf using your My Computer or the run field (just type any website address and press Enter) to see if any third party browser extensions (ex. google toolbar or yahoo toolbar) are stopping you from getting online :)

good luck!
Reply:I had this same problem in the past. my solution was to reset the router and try reinstalling the network adapter to see if any thing has changed. (When i say reset the router, I mean turn it off and turn it back on). Hope this helps.

Network connection status disappear?

Hi there,

My PC use Windows XP, SP2 and an Inventel USB wireless, chipset GW3887 to connect to internet.

In first days it work normally. But after I install some softwares, the Network connection status disappear (in system tray), and when I go to Start menu/settings/network connection, I have to wait at least 3 minutes for the window to appear showing no network connection.

However I still can access to the internet normally, can access to Wireless access point...

The only thing is I can not access the network connection so that I can not change IP address, default gateway, DNS address...

Pls help,

Thanks.

Network connection status disappear?
right click the task bar, properties, choose start menu, choose customize, choose advanced tab, scroll down the list and click the My Network Places, close tabs, Go to Start, the My Network Places shortcut should appear the start menu. right click the My Network Places button, properties, right click local area network, properties, double click TCP/IP, input desired ip address gateway dns server, click apply.
Reply:go to Control panel%26gt; network connection

there you will find all your connections

right click on the one your using

or the one with the monitors turnd on

then go to property

check the 2 check boxes in the firs page that appears and it will show in the tray again

and from there you can also change your IP
Reply:try the status bar. left click then on the uper right hand corner of the screen scroll too the left. stop and take a breath, scratch your head for a minute then press OK
Reply:go to control panel, click on Network. it should show your current networks, right click on your network or wireless adapter name, chose properties, then you will find show network status check box click enable it.

sometimes specially with Microsoft environment you should clean your registry (using registry fix, or registry mechanic) slowness caused 90% becasue of viruses and registry, fix them and you will be ok

Network connections have disappeared in windows?

Hardware manager in windows properties network connections are not listed to edit. Control Panel -%26gt;Network Connections nothing listed there either. Have two ports connected to the computer one is on Board the other is connected to a PCI slot. Cannot find either. Cannot find modem. Any kind of network connection port I cannot find in windows. The onboard LAN connection is lit when the computer boots up. Green light only no yellow light at all. Can't install drivers because the hardwar manager cannot even find the devices to begin with. Have wiped windows from the system and completely reinstalled Windows onto the computer still cannot find network devices listed in windows.

Network connections have disappeared in windows?
I know it could be quite frustrating. Try these steps ...

-- Restore the defaults for your BIOS.

-- START %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Information %26gt; In the new window that pops up, Click on the tab TOOLS %26gt; NET DIAGNOSTICS. Run the test and see what the result.

-- Try running the ADD HARDWARE whizard from Control Panel again.

-- Check if ur NIC is disable in BIOS.

-- Open the tower and reseat the PCI Card

-- Clear the CMOS by reseating the CMOS Jumper on Motherboard.

Flush the flea power by turning off the computer and then unplug all the cables from tower, Press and hold the power button for about 10 secs.

Plug-in ONLY Power cable, monitor cable, keyboard and mouse to the tower, then check if your Device Manager can see the PCI NIC

Do one thing, If nothing helps, please assign a task on

My techs will get back to you.
Reply:Try uninstalling the one on your PCI slot and installing it again. But first open up your computer and disconnect it from the PCI slot and re-insert it. Make sure its inserted correctly and tightly. It could be the one on your mo-bo is damaged since its directly connected on the board. *if you need more help give send me an email*

Network problems!?

1. I have a wireless network. My computer has been running fine but when I went to download onecare.live.com I was not able to download it. It was saying there was a network problem. Funny cause I can get on line with other things.

2. However there is a certificate thing that keeps popping up and saying it was not good and do I want to continue, the certificates are vaild ones and is trustworthly as well but it keeps coming up. This was coming up before the network problem. Any suggestions?

3. Also the network when you right click on the computers in the right hand cornor then click on status it does not have IP address information there how will you be able to get into that to correct it I have all the information for it.? please help me. I have a few things going on at once.

Network problems!?
wel let me tell you there is a few thing you need to know first of all if you have a trial on there it will say that the certificate number is no good. erase the trial and them install the program. second if you have Vista on your computer liveone will not let you get on teh computer. and as for your wireless delete the conection and then scan for networks that are availab le and reconnect. I had all of these [roblems after I installed vista. hope it helps you

Network Adaptor Problem?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop and I am having problems connecting to my wireless network. It will work for a little while than it will say connected with limited access. While my laptop cant connect my psp can with no issues, so I know it is the laptop. I am thinking that it is the Network Adaptor, I have a linksys 150N router, It connected to my brothers network with no issues. What should I do? I was thinking about getting a linksys network adapter but they are expensive, and I wanna be sure that it will fix the problem.

Network Adaptor Problem?
I have an Aspire 4920 and connect with no problems, but my wireless is built into the laptop. I'd say that it's you wireless connector rather than your router
Reply:If you're having problems with an N router, it might be the router. If you do buy an adapter, make sure it's the same brand as your router. N is just a draft, not an actual spec. yet so not all gear plays nice with other stuff.
Reply:check your router if it's refusing your wireless connection

or get a USB wireless card...it's like 20-30 bucks

I used to have a wireless card in my acer aspire then threw it out:)

Network driver help?
Yes you can ,if you computer is fairly new(Vista it must be)

best shot is to go to manufacture website and get the drives from there. If you friend computer is exact model as yours,

then click on C drive and look for a folder name 'DRIVERS"

copy the folder into your thumb or floppy ,then go to your computer and Paste all file in your DRIVERs folder ,Now restart your computer it will give you pop-up windows about new drivers and it will install them one by one from ,your driver you can also update your driver and when it will ask you where to look for it let it brows in your Thumb drive or whatever you have the drivers folder in.

Network problem urgent help needed?

me an my friend have taken a 256 kb broad band. we both r sharing it. he is using it in his laptop using usb cable connected to the router and i am using it in my pc using dsl network adapter connected to the same router.

but when ever he is downloading anything my internet get disconnected. in spite of slow down its completely disconnected.

and the general ip address is replaced by junk ip address.

is there any networking boosting or network error correcting software available(like ip correction, renew ip, network booster, or software use for browsing in 2 computer simultaneously etc). how can i be on always? do i need to change router settings?

my isp provider is very reluctant so no meaning of complaining them. anyway i complained them few days back but they still didn't send anyone to look.

Network problem urgent help needed?
you guys need to slow down.

disconnect the router and both computers

DECIDE which computer is gonna be the boss.

Plug the boss into the modem and get on the internet.

put the router setup CD in the boss.

DO NOT CONNECT THE ROUTER YET.

when the CD tells you to plug in the router.

now your router and 1 computer are connected.

plug computer 2 into the router and run "network setup"

setup WIRELESS LAST

some wireless setups require the connections to be bridged

bridge your wired and wireless connections if nescesary

Network related question about DSL speed going through different hardware and different settings.?

To start off with I have a 2 year degree in Network Systems Administration, A+, Network +, CCNA, 10 years of experience in computer hardware, upgrade/maintenance and building as well as about 5 years of experience with LAN hardware/software. I have a network at home big enough to run a small company. I need an opinion from an outsider as the way i look at it would be one sided. I do not have a lot of sensitive information on my network but i plan to have semi-private sometime soon. Currently i live in a small town a few miles out so I am limited to DSL @ 512Kbps, I logged into my DSL modem and checked the downstream and I am actually hitting the barrier to the next level by having a consistant Downstream of 1498Kbps. That modem is setup in bridged mode with RFC 1492, connected to my Netgear Prosafe VPN Firewall. The firewall is an FVS318 and i have a patch panel with about 4 connections going to that. Lightening took out 4 of the ports a good while back so i had to pick and choose to

Network related question about DSL speed going through different hardware and different settings.?
The pix firewall is much more powerful than the dsl router and should not slow you down at all when using it to login to your dsl connection. it is best you keep it using the bridge mode as this allows you to have full control of all settings from the pix, using the default method would put your pix behind a nat and force double nat envoirment, you would have to open needed ports on both units and could cause more headache for yourself.

This is how i would recomend:

dsl modem to pix firewall to the lan side of the linksys. make sure the router part of the linksys is disabled. also if the pix is your dns/dhcp then disable that on the linksys as well.

for the speed issues, unless your downloading large items at the time of detected slowdowns, there shouldnt be a slowdown. since your setting up a lab and have some linux experience, you might want to look at a software monitoring called MRTG it works well to show you traffic on both the pix and the linksys if the linksys is modified with an aftermarket firmware, like DD-wrt or the like.

you have two options, the simpler route is to use the linksys as its own router and create a second nat to seperate the wireless network.

a nicer option would be to set a different subnet on different interfaces on the pix. (eg. ethernet0,ethernet1) this would help manage your whole network from one point and allow upgrade of wireless in the future without needed much configuration in the future

My home network is NOT working....help!?

I got my 2 winXP computers hooked up to each other with a LAN line for network. The network used to work, but now it doesn't. It's making me mad trying to fix it. When i turn on one computer while the other is already on, it says the network has limited or no connectivity. I've tried re-doing the whole network, restarting the computers, setting the networks up again. But i still get the same message and no computers show up in my network places. I don't know what to do. it's just not working. What should i do??? i need to share files and print from my computer to the other! HELP!!!

Add me yahoo maniacmartinuk or msn/email martin@maniacmartin.com and I'll help you as you do it
Reply:my suggestion would be to check the CAT5 cables, then the router. if that is still not working after that make a new windows network startup disc and re-do the netwrok, after you have done all that it will work. oh yes and make sure that both the computers are set for DHCP ( automatically detect IP and gateway)
Reply:well the basics are ......

unless you are connecting via hub/switch/router you must have a crossover cable

You will need to give static IP address preferably in the non routable range

192.168.1.xxx

just have the machines differing by the last character

The workgroup name needs to be the same

Switch on sharing

my network adapter used to work perfectly fine but one day it just stopped and i ran the diagnostics and it said plug cable into the LAN but theres nothing wrong with my wifi i use a psp on it I reinstalled NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller and that didnt work so i recovered it from the original version but that didnt work either virus scanned and everything the network still doesnt work and the wireless switch on the side doesnt turn blue when i try to turn it on and it cant find any networks please help!!! thanks

Network Problem Vista Laptop?
Well, go look at the DEVICE manager, be sure your wireless card is installed and enabled.

If the "wireless light" doesn't come on, its because the unit doesn't have the correct wireless driver installed and working.

You can reload the correct driver, if you have to, use a wired cable and download the correct one from HP. It should then work again.

Network difficulties (linksys WUS854G version 4)?

I am having problems connecting to the network via my linksys usb router. When I installed my router there was no signal and thus it told me to make a new network when there is already a existing router. Thus only the green power led is on whereas the link led is off. Is there a way to extend the length of the signal from my router to my existing network? I know this is possible because the geeksquad set it up and when i did a destructive reboot (due to a system error) i couldn't connect to the network. Any suggestions?

Network difficulties (linksys WUS854G version 4)?
Have you attempted pressing the little reset button in the back of the router for 30 seconds, updating the latest firmware from www.linksys.com and reconfiguring the router as if you just got it? That may actually do it.
Reply:Ya need to call GEEKSQUAD and get them back there. You dont seem like you know what your doing (no offence) and if you try to upgrade the firmware or start making setting changes, its VERY possible you will make things worse. Linksys routers are VERY forgiving as long as you know what your doing. If I were you, I'd get GEEKSQUAD back there to fix it.

Network Load Balancer?

Hello guys I really need some technical Assistance here. I'm in a Pinch! So to say..

Anyway I understand that a Network Load Balancer is used as a "replacement" for a Server. As a server can be expensive and all. So, a Network Load Balancer is Used to cut the cost.

The thing is, I recieved an abusive Email. So I copied the Full Header and sent it for tracking. I found out it was from some university. So I called up to Enquire about the IP origins.

They said that it is assigned to a network load balancer and therefore it is unlikely for anyone to have sent an email using that IP address.

The thing is, how the hell the IP got there in my full header in the first place?it's definetly not IP spoofing or Cloaking.

So I wanna ask u guys out there if you know that an IP can be captured when someone is connected to a network Load Balancer to send an Email.

Thanks !

Network Load Balancer?
Hello There!

I saw your response on another post where you directed me to your question. . . .and quite frankly there are only two correct answers.

Answer One. Who ever you spoke to at the University is outright lying to you.

Answer Two. Who ever you spoke to at the University doesn't know what they are talking about!

The Load Balancer is acting as a server that directs traffic through multiple routes. . .so in fact, what you have is a Cheap Router/Server! Any Server or Load Balancer that has more than one network device in it, is actually acting as a Router too! And each Network that they are connected to must have a separate and unique Network address.

When a packet from the private side of your network, travels through the router (Load Balancer) it doesn't keep it's private network address. The IP address is replaced with that of the NEW Network that it has just travelled on, hence the address of the Load Balancer!!! BUT the load balancer/server/router always keeps the physical address of any packet that it receives in an ARP table so that a response or a reply can get back to the original sender.

This happens around the entire web, and think of it like Hanzel and Gretel dropping crumbs to find their way back home. . .except the birds don't eat them. . .they can just age out of the system ARP Table.

The Physical Address or MAC (Media Access Control) address is what is also known as a BIA. . .Burnt In Address. . .and it is usually on a Prom Chip on the network device. Some can be programmed with software.

Anyway, all the "load balancers" and routers and even your PC keeps an ARP table for look up! The network address and MAC Address are replaced in the 'Sender Info' fields within the packet when the packet goes through the "load Balancer" or Router. . .but the MAC from the packet that is originally being routed is captured to put in the ARP Table and kept somewhere within the packet headers, (different packet types keep it in different places) so that if a reply is received, the Router, server, or load balancer knows where to send the reply.

Therefore, ANYONE who is on one of the private University's internal networks and sends a packet that goes through the Load Balancer and RIGHT OUT to the Internet that packet will have the IP Address of the Load Balancer.

Call them back and tell them to get a clue! Or that some certification courses might help them. It isn't you who has the problem you don't understand . .it is them!
Reply:Thank you for your e-mail. I wrote you a response but Yahoo! Doesn't allow me to send it to you.

Good Luck, keep in touch and stay safe! Report It

Reply:I think the load balancer takes incoming traffic requests and forwards those requests to 1 of multiple internal servers (www3.yahoo.com, for example) and then that server sends you responses directly. In this sense all requests to one URL are load balanced among several independent servers. Essentially it is just URL redirection based on traffic usage. You can send information to a load balancer's IP but the load balancer never sends traffic outside of the LAN. So, that would probably be spoofing.
Reply:Instead why dont you report to spamcop in regards with the same.

When i open my admin account in my computer the network will connected properly . But in the same my computer User mode i cant find any other network places and also i search in the network too . I dont know how to i connect with the network files in user mode?? Am using Workgroup only..

Network problem help me please ....?
Make sure you have file sharing turned on, on all the computers.
Reply:Make sure they are shared files

Click on start and then run

type :

\\COMPUTER NAME

[with that name being the one you are trying to connect to]

And your shared files will show up on the screen

If that doesn't work, check the permission settings under security on the files you are trying to share. If it works under administrator but not user, then the permissions could be set too high. Check the sharing permissions [when you right click on the folder and say share] or on the folder itself [right click and go to security] - if the user isn't listed there it will not work properly.
Reply:Perhaps, you have to make files public in administration so users can access them. Moving selected file/folders to a public folder.

I networked my home computers through a Broadband router & DSL modem after a few days we loose network?

capability. I was tired of waiting to get on my computer because mine of course is the fastest, so the kids prefer it- dsl, 2 gig ram- anyway, I cancelled the dial-up service in my older sons room on his phone line, bought a US Robotics broadband router and networked my boys computers and mine to share the DSL connection- I am sure we won't lose any bandwidth, anyway after a couple days the kids computers continually stop recognizing they are networked and wont go on the internet. It takes tons of time to reconfigure. I am new to networking, it seems basic, however, could I be doing something wrong? I use the Win XP Pro network wizard and a disk I burned per choices the wizard gave me...any ideas or suggestions to prevent this reoccuring problem?

I networked my home computers through a Broadband router %26amp; DSL modem after a few days we loose network?
OK, since you have a router the individual computers shouldn't be going through any processes involving wizards or disks. The Windows XP Internet connection sharing is designed to try and share a broadband connection WITHOUT a router (and that type of connection often does conk out after a couple of days- it attempts to have other machines connect to the Internet through your computer, instead of connecting directly to the router)

All machines should have their TCP/IP settings as "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically" - that's all. Your router will be the gateway but you don't need to specify that manually.

Anything else is probably creating more problems for you. I recommend deleting the existing network connection on the kids machine and let Windows XP create a default "Local area network" connection for you.

Did you previously have just one machine connected via the DSL modem, before you added a router? When the connection drops now, is your machine affected too, or just the kid's?

SBC/AT%26amp;T has recently been shipping some Speedstream DSL modems that work fine when connected directly to a computer but eventually drop the connection when routers are involved- what brand/model is your DSL modem?
Reply:one simple method.. to click run type cmd...( imean once u confirm all settings are correct but keeps droppin connections) on all coms and once a black screen appears, type ipconfig..

u can check the connections, the ip add and the subnetmask matches wat was on the router...

den if all matches, u could try to ping the router by typing "ping (ur ip add). all send and receive, den should be a pro..

or u could simply reset the ip address on the computers

IP addresses are unique numbers asssigned to every device on a network. They are automatially provided to your computers and devices by the HomePortal or OfficePortal using a network service known by the acronym DHCP. "Releasing" an IP address instructs the DHCP server that you are finished with the address and that it can be made available for other devices on the network. "Renewing" your IP address instructs the DHCP to either extend the time you are allowed to use your assigned address or to provide you an address if you don't already have one.

Normally, the process of releasing and renewing IP addresses is complely automated. However, in some instances, you may wish to refresh your IP address to troubleshoot a networking problem.

To release and renew your IP address on Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

Click on Start and select Run.

Type cmd and click OK.

When the black command screen opens (i.e. C:\%26gt;), type ipconfig /release. This will release your IP address. Once your address is released, you will temorarily lose network connectivity.

Once the adapter has released the IP address, type ipconfig /renew. This will request a new IP address. Within one minute your new IP address should appear. After renewing the IP address you should see an IP address of 172.16.x.x, 192.168.x.x, or 10.0.x.x. ("x" will be replaced by a number between 0 and 255.) If it shows an IP of 169.x.x.x then it is possible you are not physicially connected to the network. In this case, be sure that your computer's adapter is securely connected and any cables are securely connected.
Reply:if your networking workgroup is still set as MSHOME. then try changing it to something else
Reply:restart
Reply:Okay, I've seen a lot of good posts except the"repinging the router??!" I've never heard of that.

Anyways, if the PCs are getting an IP ADDRESS (not 169.), open command prompt and type "ping yahoo.com" if you get four replies, great! If you get something else, like host unknown, that's a DNS issue and ensure you're passing the right DNS information from the router. Routers like to use their internal address, which doesn't work well sometimes. If you get reply timed out, then the issue is between your router and the ISP. So I would look at the router's external interface (wan, or whatever) and see if it has an ip address.

I am curious to know if its the PCs that are having the issue (dns or what not) or the router (losing the ip lease, etc)
Reply:OK so you have the following.

Router

Modem

I am assuming that you are using your unit to share out the internet to your childrens computers.

"bought a US Robotics broadband router and networked my boys computers and mine to share the DSL connection"

Did you get a hub?

It would be better to use a hub in sharing your internet. Each unit is independent from each other. File sharing is where the problem starts.

Another thing you have to check is that your XP firewall protection might have just engaged. Cause sometimes it happens, its a flaw.
Reply:Repinging the router often helps. this allows the Router to reconnect to the proper DNS that your ISP gave you. Disabling or Unbinding Shares might help also.

Those arent porn sites, its Steve Gibson Research.

Its a little dated now, but it gives the basics of any network useing Windows.

It may just be the NetBEUI, but sounds like packet hopping, wich can also be NetBEUI related, microsoft will learn one day, but heck, they use Linux.
Reply:did you run both wizzards at the same time and was evertying connected at the time and on?
Reply:This problem may due to virus, kindly scan for virus if not found infected then try using the ping %26lt;I.P.Address%26gt; -t command from start %26gt; run and check the response.

Network problem: When I goto start>control panel>network connections it shows none?

I have the latest drivers for my motherboard, but I'm having networking issues, I can't set up a static IP because I have no connections in my network connections folder. This computer is networked to 3 others, and none of them have a problem getting files from this comp, and vice versa. I can't set up online games either. I'm assuming that's related. I'm using win XP pro with an Asus A8N5X motherboard. Any help is appreciated.

Network problem: When I goto start%26gt;control panel%26gt;network connections it shows none?
Isolate...the key to solving a problem...

1st, you've said that the latest drivers are already installed , try opening the Device Manager and then check %26amp; see if your NETWORK ADAPTER is really installed %26amp; does not have a yellow icon or 'X' icon showing.

2nd, also try doing a ping to this address: 127.0.0.1

doing a 'ping 127.0.0.1' (without the quotes) would check if your network adapter is working fine...and if this method would show up negative, your network adapter is not working...

3rd, your motherboard i believe has the built-in network adapter, try re-installing the device driver(s) of your network adapter...

4th, if all the above doesn't work, get a network PCI-slot adapter replacement...
Reply:Queen,

You can try to setup a new connection in the upper left hand corner of the Network Connections screen. I would advise turning the firewall off, too, that can be a pain in the a** as well when trying to network.

Good Luck !!
Reply:May be possible something happened wrong to your network properties.. may b a virus or anything..

Anyway, now start again. in network connections, click 'make a new connection', select connection type, and go on. This should be resolved. Also, go to windows help, it's good in xp.

Also check your computer with latest anti-virus.
Reply:Ok, on the backside of your computer should be where the network cable connects. Wherever it is plugged in, there should usually be a yellowish light and a green light.

Are the lights on and are they flashing? If not, then your network adapter is not working, unplug and replug the cable to see whether it is just a lose connection.

Next, check your Device Manager (Rightclick on My Computer, Hardware Tab, Device Manager button) and see whether there are any items with red x's or yellow circles with exclamation marks. If so, you either disabled the device and it needs to be re-enabled, or there is a problem with the driver. Rightclick on the device and either click Enable or Properties.

In Properties, click on Driver and if the device worked before, maybe click on driver rollback to go back to an older driver ... that would normally only be the case if your drivers were recently updated.

Sorry for the long answer, hope some of it helps ...

Network Problem?
Sounds like your Exploere shell is damaged, either by a virus, or it has corrupted itself.
Reply:yes, I agree with the previous post.

this is a windows problem more than a "network problem."

NFL Network - Switch From Comcast with No Penalty?

Would you expect this to be true?

You can ditch your Comcast contract with no penalty and switch to another provider (Direct TV for example) to get NFL Network.

Comcast removed the NFL Network from its Digital Preferred package.

If you want NFL Network from Comcast, you now have to pay what will become $5 per month.

Comcast did NOT cut the price of the Digital Preferred package even though many many people signed up for Digital Preferred because NFL Network was included. And, they have since taken it away.

Comcast told me that they would not charge me a penalty if I ditched their service because I signed up for the service before they removed the NFL Network.

Does anyone have Verizon FiOS TV or Direct TV? Do you like the service?

NFL Network - Switch From Comcast with No Penalty?
yeah I have Direct T,V, it gets 800 channels and NFL network at a very reasonable price. NFL network is year around and shows highlights, replays, and top of the line games. I suggest buying it if possible. NFL network is better than NBATV thats for sure I've tried both. hope all works well for you

Network Setup.........Help!?

Alright, I'm trying to set up a home network so I can share files between computers, and i am having some difficulties. :( I have a 2-Wire 2701HG-B router/modem for my internet connection.

- I have a Windows Vista Desktop PC connected through a ethernet cable to the 2-Wire.

- I have a Windows XP Desktop PC connected through a ethernet cable to the 2-Wire.

- I have a 2nd Windows XP Desktop PC connected through a ethernet cable to the 2-Wire.

- I have a Windows XP Laptop connected wirelessly to the 2-Wire.

- I have a HP Photosmart C6150 connected wirelessly to the 2-Wire.

- and last, I have a Sony PSP connected wirelessly to the 2-Wire.

I do not need to share files obviously through my PSP or printer. However, they do need to be connected though the 2-Wire to access the internet for the PSP and to print from all of the above listed computer for the printer. Can anyone help me set up my home network? I would need step by step instructions on how to set it up. THANK YOU!

Computer is switching to a different network?

Ok my computer connects to network 1 (the only network i have) whenever i restart the router and my computer at the same time..BUT after about 20 minutes my computer auto switches from network 1 to network 2...I dont have a network 2 and when it switches like this it wont connect to the internet...so the only way to reconnect seems to be to restart the entire network/system. I have no clue what to do about this...and when i try and connect to a different network when its on the imaginary network 2 it says "no networks available" So..any ideas on how to fix this?

Computer is switching to a different network?
Go to my networks, select the network you don't want and select " connect manually"

The network will be only ON DEMAND

1. If using the Windows Classic Start menu, click Start | Settings | Control Panel. If using the default Windows XP Start menu, click Start | Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Network Connections icon to view network connections.

3. You may have several connection options listed. Right-click the icon for "Wireless Network Connection" and choose Properties.

4. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, select the Wireless Networks tab.

5. If the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is not checked, third-party connection software may be in use. Consult that product's documentation to determine how to disable automatic wireless connections. If the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked, then continue with the steps below.

6. Under Preferred networks, highlight the name of the network to which you plan to connect and click Advanced.

7. In the Advanced dialog box, click "Access point (infrastructure) networks only".

8. Remove the check mark from "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks".

9. Click Close.

10. Click OK.

11. Close the Network Connections window by clicking the X in the upper right corner of the window.

For Ethernet networks:

Go to Network Connections. =%26gt; Select the Network

=%26gt; go to authentication =%26gt; uncheck all the check boxes

Good luck
Reply:It sounds like you have more than one network interface (i.e. wireless and and ethernet card). Let's assume that you use the ethernet card for Network 1, and that it has problems or times out after twenty minutes. The PC then tries to connect on the second interface, which looks to you like Network 2. Try disabling the second interface, then you can troubleshoot the timeouts or disconnects on Network 1. Hope this helps...

Unsecured Wireless Network?

I always see a unsecured network when scanning through the available networks in my area... its name is "linksys". I figure it's not my network because when I disconnect my router and stuff... it still shows up (while mine disappears of course).

Question 1: Would it generally be safe to log onto this unsecured network with my laptop? My laptop has no important documents or anything and I would only use it to go to public websites [ so like nothing important (ex. emails, financial accounts, etc.) ].

Question 2: There's this site that tracks IP's because it does not allow multiple accounts to be created from the same IP. If I use this unsecured network on my laptop... is my IP different (i.e. will the site allow me to create another account) from my desktop computer which is using my actual network?

Unsecured Wireless Network?
Using a neighbor's wireless access point may not be legal even with their permission. The answer varies depending on the policies of residential Internet service providers and plans among other factors.

Many U.S. states prohibit unauthorized access to computer networks including open Wi-Fi networks. While interpretations of these laws may vary, some precedents have been set in recent years:

2007 - a man in Michigan was fined for using the Wi-Fi hotspot of a local cafe, from his car

2006 - Illinois man David Kauchak was fined for unauthorized use of a local agency's Wi-Fi access point

2005 - a Florida man faced felony charges for piggybacking onto a neighbor's Internet connection without their permission

Just as entering a home or business without the owner's permission is considered trespassing (even if the doors are unlocked), likewise accessing wireless Internet connections (even open access ones) can be considered an illegal activity.
Reply:yes it is. Well a lot of people steal other wireless accounts near they're house. If you are not a secret agent well you don't care about your files safety. And yes you'll have a new IP, just test it. But i saw myself the linksys and it never works. Good luck hacker!
