Network management tools???

i'm a MIS student .. and here is part of the solution my instructor gave for the case project.

"The type of network services that can help Scoops Co., Ltd. determine what type of traffic is crossing their network belong to the network management category of functions. By using various network management tools, Scoops can find out the precise amount of traffic at any time, when the heaviest amount of traffic occurs, and each transmission’s source, destination, and protocol type. "

What i want to know is what are the said 'various network management tools' that can find out precise amount of traffic?

can you please give some examples?

Network management tools???
It depends on the equipment. Most enterprise network equipment should have SNMP functionality and a way of providing snapshots of port utilization at any time.

If you configure your SNMP manager to poll the network devices at regular intervals, you can collect utilization data for various segments of the organization and graph it out.

I use WhatsUp Gold in my environment for our server utilization. Our WAN link provider gives us utilization data from their Solarwinds solution.
Reply:Why don't you google on "various network management tools" and see what pops up? Doing a bit of reading instead of expecting Yahoo answers to do your homework for you will be far more beneficial to you in the long run.
Reply:Sure, any good firewall that serves as your gateway can tell you this...even the free ones:
