I've just had my laptop sent in for repairs and also reformatted so I just got it home and it's pretty much blank. Anyway, I'm trying to connect to my wireless internet. I can't connect to the "home wireless network" because I need to type in the network key. Before i got it wiped clean, the network key was always just automatically already there. I am now on our main PC which is what the Wireless Router is connected to but I dont know how to find out what my network key is...??!
Network Key!?
You can log onto the network interface from the pc that can connect? Then the password you entered should be the network key. Or it's entirely possible you did not set a new password %26amp; have been using the default manufacturers password. If not you will have to reset the network key if you didn't write down what it was for future reference.
Edit: just read your above postscript.... you will have to ask your dad for the password. Or look inside the manual of the router, most people write the password inside the manual to make sure they don't lose it. Or they tape it under the router.
Edit: Your isp did not set up your router %26amp; has no idea what the logon password will be. They only know the the dialup/dsl/broadband username %26amp; password ---%26gt; not the router that is connecting to the isp. Only the person who setup the router knows the network password %26amp; username ---%26gt; your dad.
Reply:you need to call you ISP and they will give you your UN and PW info you will need all his info before you call them
Reply:You can just reset the entire router to default configuration. This will allow for a admin login to the router with "admin" as the user and "admin" as the password. Sometimes it is just "admin" for the user and the password is blank. Either way, to reset the router, there should be a small pinhole towards the back of the router, usually near the power input, labeled "Reset". Find a small object (undo a paper clip) and insert it into the hole to press the reset button until the lights on the front of the router go off then turn back on. This should restore the router to factory defaults and allow for a whole new setup.
