Home network problem?

I had two pc's connected to my netgear router. My laptop which is wireless. And a desktop they are both running xp home and i had a network drive mapped on the desktop and i could access the network drive on both pc's. I just came across an old computer running xp pro that i was going to use to just store all my files but when i did the network setup wizard and put it on the "Home" network it will not show up in that network so i cannot map a drive...I was wondering if anyone Knew what i could do.

Home network problem?
Make sure the firewall on the XP Pro PC is allowing File and Printer sharing.
Reply:This problem is often caused by either firewall software or antivirus software.

Additionally, have you checked to make sure they are in the same Workgroup or domain? They must be in order for the standard windows clients to find them. Additionally, if you go to your Network Connections, right click on your adapters properties, and install Client for Microsoft Windows Nework and all the additional Service Advertising Utilities, this may resolve the issue.

As always, reboot after these types of changes.

Good luck.
Reply:Enable the Netbios/NETBui protocol in the network stack. That usually will resolve an issue like this.
Reply:Right click on the My computer ICON on the Desktop of all three systems, then properties, then the "Computer Name" tab. Make the machine names unique and the Workgroup names IDENTICAL on all three systems.
Reply:check this link its good

.
Reply:Just a extra quick check. Make sure you have an IP address and your machine is set to DHCP (if enabled) or has a static IP address in the same range as your local LAN.

Start a cmd prompt (Start-%26gt;RUN-%26gt;"type" cmd) and run ipconfig (to check ip address)

type "ping a.b.c.d" (a.b.c.d is an IP address in your local LAN on one of the other machines use ipconfig to get this from the other machine) should get !!!!!

if not you will need to adjust the settings probably on the old XP machine.
