Im a bit confused when I go on the net to research on networking I see one site saying to use Network Interface Cards (NIC) and another saying to use Network Adapters, are NIC and Network Adapters the same.

Yes they are same
Reply:NIC is an Interface (or slot) in your motherboard for adding special type of network cards .. but this is NOT an network card
