The problem: it takes ~ 8 minutes to copy a 12Mb file, which is ridiculous on a 54Mb Wifi.
The setup:I have 2 PCs. They are literally 6 feet away from each other and the signal on the one connected over the air is always excellent (54Mb). Both have a PCI network card.
The network (Trendnet, both the router and the USB adapter): My PC is connected to the router itself by a LAN cable from my network card. The other PC has a USB Wifi adapter. The network uses WPA-PSK encryption, channel 6. The Wifi router is connected to a DSL modem (Sympatico).
Internet on both PCs is fast and causes no problems what so ever. However, transferring files from one computer to the other is a pain in the neck. Both have 7200rpm hard drives and are quick except this network quirck. Both use WinXP and folder sharing.
If you need any other info (syreex@gmail.com). I am really desperate here.
Wireless network extremely slow no matter what. A trendnet setup?
hmm this sounds like a headache, hey why dont u call ur router company and ask them to see if u have to tweak with ur router setup u know via IP maybe its a port problem
Reply:That's very odd. You can go crazy trying to find and fix the problem. Something is wrong with your router.
Anyway, if both computers are only 6 feet away from each other, then why don't you just buy a Ethernet crossover cable and physically connect the two computers?
If the router isn't far away, then you don't even need a wireless setup; Just physically connect both computers to the router with regular Ethernet cable and save yourself the headache of a wireless setup. Even if your other computer doesn't have built-in Ethernet, a PCI Ethernet card can cost as little as $8 Canadian.
Physical Ethernet connections go up to 100 mbps.
